Chalet Larrouze is a beautifully restored 19th century farmhouse sleeping up to 12 guests. Arranged over 4 levels this 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom chalet provides 250m2 of simply glorious holiday accommodation. 

Located in an enviable south-facing position, the chalet affords spectacular views in all directions. An added luxury is the hot tub, which is located on the private south-facing terrace. A second west-facing terrace is the ideal space for a summer BBQ or to simply relax while the kids play in the chalet’s large garden.

As beautiful inside as out, Chalet Larrouze provides absolute modern comfort without compromising its rich heritage. Some of the benefits include Wi-Fi internet and satellite TV, private parking, a fantastic kitchen, and bedrooms and bathrooms renovated to the highest quality and style. And yet traditional features like original stone fireplace, a pot-belly stove, stone-worked walls and exposed beams throughout create a real ambience of days gone by.

With features dating back almost 200 years, the stunning 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom Chalet Larrouze is a fusion of tradition and modern luxury, providing guests with a truly unique holiday experience. 

Arriving at the chalet is like stepping back in time. The country lane ends and as you climb out of your car and stand before the chalet’s vast garden you notice nothing but the quiet solitude of nature and perhaps the sound of water flowing in the stream nearby. Oh, and the views! Semi detached, the chalet itself is a vision of yesteryear – beautiful stonework and classic Savoyard architecture.

Enter the property from the large west-facing terrace overlooking the garden – the perfect place for a summer BBQ. Before you is the main living room, featuring a magnificent stone fireplace, 2x 3-seater sofas and 2x armchairs. The space is huge, but beautifully restored original features and thoughtful décor make for a cosy, farm-stay feel. There are also plenty of mod-cons including LCD TV with DVD player, Wi-Fi internet, satellite receiver for French and English TV, and music system with iPod dock. A vast array of games, DVDs and books are also supplied.

Coats and boots can be stored by the entrance or in the utility/boot room, which also has a separate WC – one of 6 in the property. The laundry area has a washer, dryer, double basin, storage cabinets and a large freezer.

Walk through the living area to the separate dining room, with seating for 12. It is a space of grandeur that looks out onto spectacular mountain views through an enormous window. A private study/library with 2-seater couch is accessed from one end of the dining room. The study features a beautiful stone pillar, with original date stamp of 1836! It also opens out onto the property’s rear, south-facing terrace.

A small staircase leads down to the terrace, at the bottom of which is Bedroom 5 - a private retreat. This is where you will also find your Jacuzzi, which overlooks the garden and affords stunning views of the valley and surrounds.

The property’s amazing kitchen is found at the other end of the dining room. Three steps lead down into the massive space and double French doors open out onto one of the property’s 2 south-facing balconies – this is a kitchen with a view! It’s also superbly equipped, with central preparation island and breakfast bar for 2, Rangemaster with 6-burner gas stove, an additional multi-function combination oven/microwave, pot-belly stove, full-size fridge, dishwasher, masses of storage space and all the cooking items you could imagine, including a large selection of pots and pans, baking dishes, food processor, traditional Asian steamer, and deluxe Gaggia coffee machine for those café-style lattes in the morning. There is also a raclette machine so you can host traditional Savoyard feasts.

With the exception of Bedroom 5 all of the bedrooms are located on the property’s upper levels. All bedrooms are with recently renovated ensuite bathrooms  and have been stylishly designed and furnished to the highest quality and detail. Chalet Larrouze boasts 5 spacious bedrooms, all of which have stylish ensuite bathrooms. The bedrooms have been individually styled and decorated, each with a unique charm that adds to the chalet’s overall character. The bathrooms are all fitted with vanity units, heated towel rails and private WCs. A 6th WC is located on the entrance level, just off the main living area.

Bedrooms 1-4 are located on the chalet’s upper levels. Bedroom 1 is a spacious room with a king-size bed and private, south-facing balcony affording beautiful views over the Giffre valley. It features a steel-framed four-poster bed, wall-length built in wardrobe and lovely solid wood Indian side tables. Great care was taken during renovations to maintain the chalet’s traditional charm and the masterfully restored and exposed beams in bedroom 1 are stunning. The ensuite bathroom comprises a WC, double vanity unit with ample storage space and large shower with luxurious oversized showerhead.

Bedroom 2 is a bright and welcoming space filled with natural light from the overhead velux window. The room is furnished with a wood-framed queen size bed, gorgeous antique dresser and matching side tables. There is also a large chest and small built in wardrobe for additional storage. The beautiful ensuite bathroom comes complete with a WC, a large shower and impressive free-standing bath. A stylish single vanity unit with built-in cabinet provides ample storage room for all your toiletries.

Bedroom 3 is another double room. Matching bedside tables with drawers and a sweet antique sitting chair give the room a warm and homely feel. It looks out onto the country lane below and impressive Savoyard farmhouse on the slope above. A wardrobe nook with plenty of hanging space and built-in shelves provides ample storage and the stylish ensuite bathroom comprising a WC, shower and single vanity unit also has a set of shelves.

Bedroom 4 is the family room, sleeping 3/4 in 1x double and 2x single beds. It is a ‘hidden gem’, accessed via a spiral staircase enclosed in a secret space between bedrooms 1 & 3. Located in what was originally the chalet’s loft, bedroom 4 is full of character. Its shape, exposed beams and hidden nooks are sure to delight all visitors. It’s bright and spacious, with windows at each end providing views in all directions. The 2x single beds are located under the slanting roof of the loft-space (partially limited head space) while the double bed sits on a raised platform below the south-facing window. The ensuite bathroom consists of a WC, shower with oversized showerhead and single vanity unit.

Bedroom 5 is a twin/double room located on the chalet’s lower level. This room is quite unique in that it has its own private and secure entrance, which is completely separate from the main chalet. Access to the main house is via a small, external staircase located just outside the bedroom door, but once you have retired for the evening you should normally have everything you need until morning. Bedroom 5 has a large wardrobe for storage and private ensuite bathroom fitted with WC, shower and single vanity unit. It opens up onto the chalet’s rear south-facing terrace, providing guests direct access to the private gardens and hot tub. It is the perfect place for some extra privacy and relaxation.

Chalet Larrouze is a semi detached chalet, which has truly idyllic surrounds on a large plot of private land. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Giffre valley and surrounding countryside from either of the two south-facing balconies or large paved terraces. A luxurious hot tub sits in complete privacy on the rear, south-facing terrace, overlooking Chalet Larrouze’s garden.

The west-facing terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a late afternoon BBQ or soak up the last of the day’s sun as you watch the kids play in the garden below. Dotted with fruit trees, the large and sunny garden is the perfect place for a summer picnic. It’s also a children’s paradise. Come summer or winter there is ample space to play and build snowmen and a very gentle slope on one half of the garden provides excellent sledging terrain.

There is private off-road parking for up to two cars. Additional cars can be parked for free in the communal spaces at the bottom of the lane, just a short walk away. In winter, during heavy snowfall we recommend you use the communal spaces.

Chalet Larrouze is located in the peaceful surrounds of Secouen d’en Bas, a tiny hamlet with a rich history situated just a few minutes’ drive from the villages of Samoëns and Morillon. The chalet sits in an enviable south-facing position at the end of a quiet country lane. Surrounded by nature and affording spectacular views over the Giffre Valley, Chalet Larrouze provides an idyllic setting for your year-round alpine holidays. 

The chalet is the perfect summer holiday destination, with a number of hiking and mountain bike trails right on your doorstep. Hike all the way up to the Bourgeoise summit and enjoy views over the entire Giffre valley. The same trail continues on to the famous Col de Joux Plane with its pretty lake and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Or stroll through green pastures then down to the shaded banks of the Valentine stream.

In winter, you can access our vast skiing domain with ease. Both the Grand Massif Express in Samoëns and the Morillon telecabine are within a 6-8-minute drive. You will require a vehicle at this property but parking is available. The access road is also cleared of snow during winter, although snow tyres and chains are a must. Private parking is available at the chalet with additional communal spaces at the bottom of the lane just a short walk away. If there is heavy snowfall we recommend you use these free communal parking spaces. Parking at the ski lifts and in the nearby villages is also free.

Samoëns village with its many shops, bars and restaurant, medieval town square, beautiful church and ancient buildings is only a short drive away. Samoëns boasts an impressive ice-skating rink and bowling alley and you won’t want to miss the bustling Wednesday morning market, one of the biggest in the region.

Morillon is also just a few minutes’ drive from the chalet. There, you will find even more shops and restaurants and the beautiful Lac Bleu, which boasts an array of leisure facilities.

Nous sommes tombés amoureux de la région et ses multiples possibilités de ballades, Samoëns est un village gai accueillant. Nous partons à regret après ces deux semaines de vrais vacances.

We live in Gascony, France with our two dogs. We lived in the mountains for several years but have now moved South West and as a result we have decided to share our mountain retreat.
