The Hamlet of Vercland, Samoëns

Vercland is a beautiful hamlet of Samoëns, totally unspoilt and under developed, with open pastures and rolling farmland.  It sits about 100m higher than Samoëns so from its elevated position offers some of the best possible uninterrupted views of the spectacular Criou mountain, Les Dent Blanches and the mountains beyond.

Vercland was best known for being the home of Samoëns original ski telecabine/cable car, Saix. However, season 2020/21 sees the introduction of the new super fast Doppelmayr 10 seated telecabine, whipping you up to Samoëns 1600 in only 7 minutes.  This new telecabine will travel at 6m/s carrying 2000 passengers per hour a vertical distance of 802m. From the top of this new lift, at an altitude of 1600m, you are straight into the heart of the Samoëns ski domain with easy access on to green and blue runs connecting with the vast Grand Massif area suitable for all levels of skier.

Due to its elevated position and the north facing aspect of the ski runs, it normally offers reliable pistes.  This means now that for much of the winter, you can ski down to the hamlet and reach accommodation here with great ease.  Due to a large and recent investment it now boasts numerous snow cannons increasing the opening of this fantastic descent. A lovely long and wide tree lined run winding its way through some beautiful alpine country side, can certainly be enjoyed.

Until the Grand Massif Express was constructed on the edge of Samoëns village, the ski pistes of Vercland were the only choice for locals, who did not want to travel too far afield and when you see old pictures of skiers in Samoëns, its often on the lifts or pistes in Vercland!  Please note that the Vercland ski lift is subject to a closure date one week prior to the Samoëns ski lifts, with a replacement ski bus service in place to the Samoëns telecabine.

Accommodation here is becoming more and more sought after and there are more and more chalets popping up.  It is popular for people who seek peace and quiet, with the added convenience of being very close to pistes and the ski lift. The Hamlet Of Vercland Samoens With Piste And Telecabine
E Biking In Vercland

One of Samoëns’ most popular restaurant and après ski bar is found in Vercland, right at the bottom of the telecabine and piste - La Reposette. It is a super family friendly spot, run by a lovely Dutch family and a firm favourite with us. The roaring log fire, all day food and large open terrace, often hosting Dj’s make it a popular spot in snow and sunshine.

There is another bar and restaurant at La Boule de Neige also in Vercland, and if you want more variety, you can always pop down into Samoëns 1.5KM away or Morillon at 3KM.

The ski bus service operates throughout the day back and forth into Samoëns and Morillon. If you miss the last bus, or want to stay later in the evening, one can take the 1.5-2km walk or you can book yourself a taxi. Non skiers may like to use this service to enjoy the delights of the local towns.

It’s not essential to bring a car if you are staying here in the hamlet of Vercland, but it is very useful, even if you only use it for the occasional supermarket, trip to the bakery, or shopping in Samoëns' large array of individually owned shops.

Vercland is also a popular summer spot, with plenty of walking and biking trails on your door step. It is on the main descent from the popular Samoëns 1600 to Samoëns trails both hiking and biking.

Alps Accommodation owners love Vercland so much, they have their home and an office here and we still don’t tire of the spectacular mountain back drop!
