September in Samoens, Morillon and the Grand Massif

A few clouds this weekend in what has otherwise been a clear, blue sky for most of the summer season.  There were a few drops of rain too, but nothing to dampen the spirits of those in Samoëns, where it’s been one of the hottest summers to date.  The ‘canicule’, which is French for heat wave, hit Central France last week.  The knock on effect for Samoëns was some stunning and sun-shiny days of around 30°C.  Too hot some of you might think?  That was not at all the case for the guests of Alps Accommodation.  Toes were dipped in the cool, refreshing waters of the Giffre; some of the more daring going for the whole body option.  There was a fisherman or two spotted looking very relaxed perched on the shady rocks down by the river.  Another caught a perch in the lake at Samoëns, while onlookers sat back and chilled on picnic blankets or tested their balance on slack-lines.

A number of guests were regular visitors to the pool last week, many taking advantage of the 2 euro end of day admittance fee.  The Samoëns pool is open again all of this week and next weekend before closing up for the season on the 3rd of September.  Lac Bleu in Morillon remains a pleasant and natural alternative swimming option through September. You can also hang out in the shady surrounds of ‘Les Aventuriers du Lac’, literally!  This is an acrobatic high ropes course for people of all levels of ability and has been a very popular activity.  ‘Les Aventuriers du Lac’ will remain open at weekends all through the month of September and mid-week for group bookings.  There are also a number of other activities still available for you to enjoy in the coming months, including rafting, parasailing, quad-biking, cross-country biking and of course hiking.  The tourist office will continue to organise free activities and events each week until the 14th September.  A highlight for many will be the Mont Blanc Rally Car Race on the 7th and 8th.  This is an exciting event that is free for all to enter, or simply enjoy from the sidelines as the rally cars race through an organised circuit of village and mountain roads.

From mid September, peace and tranquility return to the village.  The height of the summer season comes to a close but by no means does Samoëns lose any of its charm.  It’s at this time of year that the mountains are the ideal place to escape and enjoy the calming surrounds.  Go on beautiful hikes, getting up close and personal with wildlife as the many paths become less crowded.  Take a gentle stroll along the river or spend a quiet moment by the lake.  Or head to the historical town centre and admire the lovely old buildings while you sit and enjoy a refreshing drink.  No matter what you choose to do, autumn in Samoens and Morillon are shaping up to be a most pleasant experience.

So be sure to get in touch with Alps Accommodation where Tom, Ali, Hayley, Paul and the team are happy to help organise your end of summer or autumn break.  With flexible arrivals and departures, and some great specials on week long and mini breaks, you’re sure to find the perfect accommodation in Samoens and Morillon.
