The 2018-19 Grand Massif ski season may have come to an end but believe it or not but we have just had a light dusting of snow on the pistes, almost a week after they have closed! But while some of the more committed ski touring fanatics are enjoying the last of the winter fun, many of us have already been enjoying the endless Spring and Summer activities already on offer.
That means the bike is greased and ready - in fact pretty much since those first rays of glorious sun started shining down a few weeks back bikers have been out in force around the valley! The trails are dry, and quiet, and the warmer weather, around 21-22oC recently, means the sights have been just awesome. Vibrant green pastures and lots of spring time blossoms are starting to bloom, not to mention the wildlife – it’s a nature-lover’s paradise for sure.
Plus, now that the snowline is starting to creep its way back up to the higher mountain peaks we can start thinking about summer hikes again. Some of the lower altitude trails are already accessible, including the spectacular Cirque du Fer a Cheval! And that's great news for The Samoens Trail Tour, which is back bigger and better than ever! After a hugely successful event last year the crew are organising yet another fabulous race day out. This year’s event is being held between 14-16th of June 2019 and you can choose from 6 different races - from 12km / 330m of climbing, up to the gruelling 91km / 6450m Ultra Tour de Haute Giffre. If you enjoy a bit of running, and you enjoy the mountains then this is definitely one for you! And if you enjoy the mountains but you’re not too sure of the running then why not come just to spectate and enjoy a very special atmosphere.
The summer season is not even upon us yet and there’s already so much to look forward to! So, if you’re keen to come and enjoy some spring and early summer time fun then be sure to get in touch. And don’t forget now’s as good a time as any to start thinking about that summer break too! The sunny warm weather here and there is so much to do: trail running, mountain biking, rafting, viaferata, hiking, canyoning, road cycling, climbing, parapenting, swimming, tree climbing, high ropes course, tennis, archery, golf, hydrospeed, and not to mention all the rest! Or if you prefer to take it easy, why not choose a luxury chalet with garden, swimming pool or hot tub and relax in stunning natural surroundings. Maybe stroll the historic streets of Samoens taking in the local shops and produce, and sunny terraces of the many cafes, bars and restaurants. In Samoens, the Summer season doesn't start in July, it has already begun!
