The Winter Season 2013 is off to a great start already. Those of you lucky enough to celebrate the New Year in Samoens were treated to a delightful fireworks display and vin chaud, the traditional French beverage of hot mulled wine. There was some great partying to be had at local venue Covey’s Irish Bar, and the Office of Tourism put on a free and fun music event in the square. Better still are the sensational skiing conditions we’ve been able to enjoy this past week!
Stunning, sunny days have made for perfect holiday skiing. Some of our guests have enjoyed day-long jaunts to Flaine, touring the whole Grand Massif, while others have opted for a more relaxed pace. At the Alps Accommodation welcome drink on Monday night, one guest informed me of the lovely afternoon she’d spent taking the sun in a deck chair up on the slopes. She had been on a picturesque stroll along the valley floor earlier that morning, and said it was an ideal end to the day. For skiers and non-skiers alike, the conditions at the moment are fabulous!
Of course sunny days, as lovely as they are, have meant a decrease across the resort of the impressive snow depth we had early in the season. All is by no means lost however, with a still impressive 2.44m on the upper slopes of Flaine and just over 1m in Samoens. Plus, the snow-gods are smiling upon us. Snowfalls are forecast from Thursday evening and across the weekend. That’s right folks – fresh powder is on the way!

There’s still plenty going on in the village but fewer crowds to contend with, which of course is the same for the vast ski domain.
