Morillon lies in the picturesque Giffre Valley in the Haute Savoie region of the Northern French Alps. Only 50 minutes drive from Geneva airport and 15 minutes from the nearest motorway junction, Morillon is one of the most easily accessed resorts in the Alps. Based in the heart of the Grand Massif ski area, there are over 265km of pistes over five resorts... Morillon, Samoens, Les Carroz, Flaine and Sixt. All of our accommodation in Morillon are in excellent locations and offer great facilities.
Morillon is home of the Olympic downhill gold medalist Antoine Dénériaz. The telecabine for skiers and non skiers, is located in the heart of the village and takes you to 1100 metres altitude in only a few minutes, where you can access pistes of all varieties and to suit all levels of skier and snowboarder. One of the most beautiful pistes in the Grand Massif, The Marvel... which is lined by trees and 8km long, can be found in Morillon. Much of the season you can ski from 1100 down to the village centre positioned at 800m. The Creche is located at Morillon 1100, more information can be found in our Families section.
Morillon makes a great base for a summer holiday with Lac Bleu being the centre of all activities with a life guarded sandy beach for swimming, horse and pony rides for all ages, adventure parks, giant inflateables, tennis, volleyball, as well as rafting down the river and mini-golf just a few metres down the road from the lake. Or take a stroll along the river to Samoens in about 50 minutes. There is also a fabulous lake-side bar and restaurant, La Covagne, serving up great food and of course, the obligatory ice-cream!
Morillon 1100 (less than 10 minutes drive from Morillon village) has tennis courts, a basketball court/football pitch, and plenty of open grassy areas. Two lifts are open for the summer holidays, which take you up to many hiking and biking trails, as well as the amazing L'Igloo restaurant, a great restaurant with an incredible view! Or a couple of minutes walk from the top of the lift brings you to a restaurant on a mountain farm, where they serve up delicious local meats and cheese, and the not-to-miss potato cakes.
The village itself is steeped in history and is a real working village unspoilt by tourism. It has its very own weekly market on Wednesdays, as well as numerous bars and restaurants serving a variety of tasty local cuisine. There is a quaint church, supermarket, various sports shops with equipment hire, tourist information centre, cash point, medical centre, chemist, activity operators, tennis courts, football pitch, adventure park, swimming lake an ice rink and everything else you would expect from a well equipped mountain resort. Just 5 minutes drive away is Samoens village and all it has to offer.
Morillon 1100, also called Morillon Les Esserts, is a mountain side resort offering total convenience to its visitors. It is very popular with families due to an excellent creche and its traffic free centre. A supermarket, bakery, sports shops, restaurants and bars are all within a few minutes walk of each other. For nightlife you can relax in the many local restaurants and most notably, the Madison pub is a great place to spend an evening listening to live music and enjoying the good food and playing pool. Whilst out on the mountain, there are lots of mountain restaurants to choose from, in some spectacular locations, the igloo restaurant on the piste, is one of the best in the Grand Massif. When staying in Morillon Les Esserts, you are able to travel down to Morillon village during the daytime, to benefit from the facilities and attractions, when you area not busy on the ski slopes!
Christmas 2017 will see the opening of the new Coulouvrier lift inbetween Samoens and Morillon - quicker access for Morillon skiers to Flaine and the rest of the Grand Massif - Check out our article Coulouvrier Chairlift.
2015 saw the lift company install dozens of snow cannons on the ski run linking Morillon village and Morillon 1100. This makes for much easier access for guests staying in Morillon village itself, if you prefer to ski down to the village.
In summer there is an adventure park in Morillon village where you can get closer to nature by swinging through the trees on zip lines, wires and steps suspended high off the ground. Next to the adventure park is the stunning Lac Bleu, this lake is safe to swim in, has its own sandy beach and is life guarded in the summer. Also in this park there are tennis courts, an ice skating rink, volley ball courts, a horse riding and quad biking school. Morillon also has some fantastic purpose built mountain biking trails which are lift assisted in July and August. Read more about summer family activities in the area.
The stunning scenery, fresh mountain air, abundance of wildlife, exhilarating activities and quaint village charm, make Morillon a truly fantastic holiday destination at any time of the year.
