9 Free Summer Activities and Events in Samoens, Morillon & Sixt!

We all know there are numerous summer activities to enjoy in Samoëns, enough to keep even the most motivated of groups happy for years! But what can you do for free? We've put our heads together and come up with a long list that surprised even us!

The Lakes of Samoëns and Morillon

Enjoy a swim in beautiful Lac Bleu, Morillon, with its lifeguarded swimming area and sand beach, all for free! Samoëns lake is also open to swimmers. Or why not go for a paddle in the refreshing Giffre River, whose rocky banks are perfect for scenic BBQs. Both lakes also offer a huge number of activities in the surrounding area, including five-a-side football, beach volleyball, basketball, and large grassy areas ideal for picnics, relaxing and family games.

Hiking in the Haute Giffre Valley

We have a massive network of walking trails in the Haute Giffre valley with everything from gentle strolls around our historic villages, to riverside walks, to day-long hikes up to towering peaks! There really is something for everyone.

Cascade du Rouget

There are so many incredible waterfalls in our valley to visit, but one of the most impressive is the Cascade du Rouget near Sixt Fer-a-Cheval. Thunderous and chaotic at any time of the year!

Pump Track and Skatepark

Morillon has a fantastic pump track located next to Lac Bleu, just a few hundred metres from the village centre! It has proved a massive hit with everyone from experienced bikers to inquisitive families who are giving it a go for the first time. It's free to use, but you will need your own bike or scooter. Lac Bleu also has a free beach volleyball court!

In Samoëns, an impressive skatepark is available near the Les Lacs aux Dames, offering a bowl, rails, a curb ledge, and more.

Alpine Botanical Garden Jaÿsinia

Located in the very heart of the village, the beautiful botanical gardens are home to a huge range of plants and flowers, ancient trees, small waterfalls, and unique views over the village.

Geocaching

Explore the local area in the search for hidden treasures in the villages, forests and mountain sides of our valley. It's a great way to enjoy our wonderful natural environment with the addition of a little extra fun! Find out more about geocaching.

Cycling

You'll need to bring your own bike to keep this one free! But if you are a keen cyclist of either the on-road or off-road variety, then we strongly suggest you do! Via Ferrata, Sixt Fer-a-Cheval

You'll need your own equipment (and appropriate experience), but if you have these, then the Via Ferrata located between Sixt and Samoens is free to use! It's fantastic fun, and you get some amazing views over the valley. Equipment and guides can also be rented for those who require them.

Free Events & Entertainment

A wide variety of events take place around Samoëns and the Haut-Giffre valley throughout the spring, summer, and autumn. And the good news? Many of them are free! Concerts, festivals, sporting events, while weekly family-friendly activities are organised around the Samoëns during July and August. There’s something for everyone!
