Description

Description

Looking across at La Cabine from the garden, with the backdrop of the Criou mountain, you will be drawn inside to see what delights are on offer.  Enter the living room via the covered porch area equipped with a teak chair and logs, and as you step inside the charm and comfort of the chalet is immediately evident.  The deep and comfy velvet sofa sits beside the log burner with a tall attractive built in log store.  The original wooden beams of the Mazot structure, and different old and new styles and textures of wood, blend with the contemporary fittings.  Furry throws in each room offer that bit of extra luxury and decadence along with the faux fur bean bag or stool.

In the bright open plan living area, there is the dining table seating 3-4 people, which incorporates modern chairs with the old wooden table. Next to the dining area is the satellite TV with UK and French channels, Bluetooth sound bar, PS4 and games and a selection of books and games for your enjoyment. The chalet also has free Wi-Fi throughout.  Opposite is the soft dark grey 3 seater sofa, which can be converted into a double bed to provide flexible sleeping arrangements.

The separate kitchen has a modern cabin feel, with plenty of original wood, which contrasts with the modern, bright and fresh white cabinets and grey worktop. The kitchen comes fully equipped with dishwasher, full size oven and ceramic hob, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and ample cooking and serving equipment.  A Nespresso machine and raclette machine are also provided.  This is a lovely sunny room, where you can glimpse at the sun rise to the east while making breakfast, or enjoy the south facing aspect of the second double window.

Stairs lead from the living area, up to the 2 bedrooms.  The first a master king size and the second is a small loft style bedroom with twin beds and plenty of storage.  Please note the second bedroom has limited head height with a sloping ceiling.

A separate heated utility room provides ski and outdoor items storage, plus houses the washer dryer, iron and ironing board.  A cot and high chair are available on request.

Due to the nature of the old original Mazot/cabin structure, please note that the stairs up to the bedrooms are steeper than your average stairs, but there is of course a chunky handrail and we can provide a stair-gate for families with young kids.  Please see images 14 and 18, which shows the hallway and stairs.  In addition there are lower than normal doorways leading into the bedrooms.

Bedrooms

Bedrooms

Bedroom 1

Sleeps 2, 1 x king size bed (160cm wide) or 2 x 80cm single beds.

Bedroom 2

Sleeps 2, 2 x single bed (90 cm wide).

Lounge

Double sofa-bed sleeping 1-2 people.

Both the bedrooms are located next to each other on the upper level.  Each have been beautifully furnished and come complete with crisp white bed linen, furry throws and soft carpets.  They offer views across to the Grand Massif valley and ski area, plus at many times of the year a waterfall can be seen in the distance.

La Cabine offers a fabulous master king bedroom, furnished with locally crafted wooden cabinets, plus a small built in hanging area and large under-bed drawers.  The navy soft throw and velvet cushions add that extra bit of luxury.  From the deep and comfy bed you can glance across to the alpine views via the original arched shutter.

The second bedroom is a very cosy loft style bedroom, with 2 single beds, a huge built in storage cabinet with shelves and hanging area, plus a large fluffy bean bag.  This room has restricted head height, sloping down from a maximum of 1.7m, so is more suitable for kids or teenagers happy with a lower ceiling!

The sofa in the lounge is also a convertible double bed, offering flexible sleeping arrangements for families or smaller groups.

There is a bright and fresh family bathroom on the lower level, complete with a large 1m long shower, a vanity unit with sink and drawers, a WC, and a heated towel rail.  A variety of miniature Molton Brown toiletries are also provided.

Exterior

Exterior

La Cabine has a unique  "chocolate box" exterior and with it being totally detached with large gardens, it is quite a unique find here in Samoens village.  Situated in a small cluster of chalets at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, flat and enclosed gardens surround each side of the chalet, so you can enjoy sunshine throughout the entire day.  The wonderful backdrop to La Cabine, is Samoens’ famous Criou mountain, and to the front, you can see the Grand Massif ski and mountain area and a stunning waterfall in the distance.  A bbq and outside table are also provided and the garden is enclosed with a gate, making in an ideal choice for children.

Situated at the back of the chalet is a heated secure storage area, large enough for skis and boots, which also contains a combination washing/dryer.  A further outdoor cupboard is also available and could house prams or further equipment. The chalet also offers an off street parking space and further parking near.

Throughout the ski season, a free and regular bus service is available just 50m from the chalet, giving access to the Grand Massif Express lift which links into the wider Grand Massif network. Alternatively, the same telecabine can be reached by a scenic 12 minute riverside walk. Our recommended ski/snowboard equipment hire shop offer ski lockers on the piste (subject to availability) allowing equipment to be stored at the top of the telecabine, and freeing guests up to stroll the historic streets, or enjoy an après ski drink or two! Located in central Samoens, the new ice rink is a firm family favourite and is only 8-10 minutes away.

The spring, summer and autumn offer an endless list of fun activities, both action packed and relaxing! La Cabine boasts many hiking possibilities from the property, with gentle riverside strolls commencing on the Clevieux river just 30m away and leading both up and down stream of the Giffre river to Sixt and Morillon respectively. For the more adventurous, the Criou mountain, behind the chalet offers a more demanding challenge. The Grand Massif Express, open July and August, offers access to some wonderful mountain bike trails, while road bikers can join the famous Col de Joux Plane climb just meters from the property.

Take a 10 minute drive to the end of the valley, and arrive in the truly stunning Cirque de Fer a Cheval where up to 30 dramatic waterfalls tumble from hanging glaciers to form the Giffre river which later passes through Samoens. The surrounding national park offers a wealth of adventure for all interests, and abilities.

Reviews

We had a really lovely stay in this cute chalet, everything you need for a home away from home! Great location, close to the village and sk bus/lifts. Good contacts with Alps Accommodation. Highly recommend. Thank you!

Chalet, best accommodation we have stayed in. Attention to detail is brilliant, plus all those little things like juice, tea, coffee bin bags, dishwasher tabs that are frustrating to bring.... thank you.

Incredibly sweet little chalet - we called it our little Hobbit House!  It packs a huge amount into a small space and was perfect for our needs for 4 pristine days of skiing. Great time spent at chalet La Cabine. Samoëns is a magnificent town to enjoy the end of year celebrations. Superb ski resort. Magnificent moments that we will never forget. We will come back, that's for sure. Thanks to Kat and Dave.

Hildevert, La Cabine, December 2019

This was our first stay in La Cabine, but not in Samoens. This is a lovely Mazot, well decorated and fully equipped! Everything you need is here. Contacts, Paul and Hayley, and very helpful. Enjoy fresh local food at the market every Wednesday, by the ice skating rink. It's easy to go for long walks, even starting from Samoens:  direction Col de Joux Plan you have plenty of choice for hiking. You cannot get starved with the butcher/deli Pied de Poule. This will not be the last visit to La Cabine!

Kusters, La Cabine, October 2019

We had a fantastic stay at La Cabine in September. The chalet is well equipped with everything you could need, having a washing machine was a real bonus. The garden was lovely and perfect to enjoy the autumn sunshine. Being only a short walk from the village was ideal for picking up croissants and basics. The chalet was beautifully clean, lovely linen and comfortable beds. It worked well for us travelling with a 3 year old. Thanks for having us!

Gaze Family, La Cabine, September 2019

Thank you so much. We had such a great time staying at La Cabine, Samoens. We have never visited the area before in October but will certainly do so again in the future. The accommodation was just perfect for what we wanted, a base to do hiking and a place just to enjoy a lazy day. Thank you to for the excellent customer service too, much appreciated.

Smart, La Cabine, October 2019

We booked a last minute holiday in La Cabine in February and had an absolutely fantastic time. The website is one of the best that we have used for booking accommodation - easy to search and the pictures give a very realistic view of the properties, which are all gorgeous. La Cabine was perfect for our needs - we loved it. Everyone at Alps Accommodation was friendly and a pleasure to deal with. They respond to queries really quickly. Samoens is a fab place, both for skiers and non skiers, and we have already booked another visit in the summer and our 2020 ski trip. Both with Alps Accommodation of course!

Smith party, La Cabine, February 2019

We had a lovely stay at La Cabine, a perfect comfy and cosy little chalet with everything you need packed in! The kitchen was fantastically well-equipped, lovely bathroom and great log burner to keep toasty warm. Lovely comfy beds with fluffy rugs and throws - a great place to chill after a day on the slopes.

Giddens, La Cabine, January 2019

We stayed at La Cabine, on arrival what a great looking place, on walking in the ambiance and the decor is second to none. Everything you need, fabulous kitchen and bathroom. The main bedroom is beautiful and the bed is so comfortable "can i take it home". The reception by Alps Accommodation was great. I will be back, thank you.

About the owners

La Cabine was purchased in 2018 by Alps Accommodation's owners Tom and Ali.  We live in Samoens year round and own a chalet just next door and always loved this property from the outside, dreaming of being the owners one day.  A true "chocolate box" style chalet and so cute and appealing, we always thought it would have great rental potential.  Finally the owners told us after 14 years of "eyeing it up" that they were going to sell and we jumped at the chance of buying it and later renovating it totally.  A bigger project than we imagined (considering its only a little place!), the works including raising the ceiling and moving a few walls, and we worked tirelessly to complete it all for winter 2019.  For couples and small families, we feel it offers something pretty unique, being detached and also a lovely garden, we hope it would be appealing to you.  We are delighted to include La Cabine within our rental portfolio and really hope you will enjoy staying here! Tom and Ali Ward-Lee
