Summers a’comin to Samoens!

Well, believe it or not but we are expecting a light dusting of snow on the pistes, the week after they close!  But while some of the more committed ski touring fanatics are enjoying the last of the winter fun, I was looking to the summer fun times ahead!

That means the bike is greased and ready - in fact pretty much since those first rays of glorious sun started shining down a few weeks back getting out on a bike ride every now and then has been a bit of a priority. And boy has it been worth it! The trails are dry, and quiet, and the warmer weather means the sights have been just awesome. Green pastures and lots of spring time blossoms are starting to bloom, not to mention the animals will soon be out in force – it’s a nature-lover’s paradise for sure.

Plus, now that the snowline is starting to creep its way back up to the highest peaks of the mountains we can start thinking about summer hikes again. Some of the lower altitude trails are already accessible, which is great as far as I’m concerned because it’s time for me to get back into shape.  Especially with Samoëns Trial Tour event only 8 weeks away!

That’s right, The Samoens Trail Tour is returning! After a hugely successful event last year the crew are organising yet another fabulous race day out, with an additional and shorter course option this year. Yay! This year’s event is being held on Sunday 17-18th of June 2017 and you can choose from a gruelling 83km Ultra Tour de Haute Giffre, 49 km tour de Criou, 33km Tour de Giffre or the still sounds pretty gruelling 18km Trail Découverte. And don’t forgot those are just the running distances, you’ll still need to do all the climbing up and down distances too. But if you enjoy a bit of running, and you enjoy the mountains then this is definitely one not to be missed. And if you enjoy the mountains but you’re not too sure of the running then why not come just to spectate and enjoy the buzz, or better yet join the volunteer teams helping on the courses? I know we are going to need all the encouragement I can get so come along for a cheer!

Ali from the Alps office is tackling the 33km this year, while Tom is taking on the if you fancy joining us then come to Samoens lac au Dammes on the 17th of June 2017 and cheer us on. Or come see us on Facebook where we’ll be posting updates over the weeks ahead to let you know how the training is going. Go team Alps Accommodation!!

The summer season is not even upon us yet and there’s already some great stuff to look forward to. So, if you’re keen to come and enjoy some spring and early summer time fun then be sure to get in touch. And don’t forget now’s as good a time as any to start thinking about that summer break too! The sunshine is a coming and there’s lots of things to do: Trail running, downhill biking, rafting, viaferata, hiking, canyoning, road cycling, climbing, parapente, swimming, sunbathing, tree climbing, high ropes course, tennis, archery, golf, hydrospeed, and not to mention all the rest!
