La Ruche is located in the unspoilt hamlet of Les Vallons, nestled amongst an array of fine traditional Savoyard architecture. Located in a quiet area that is still only a matter of minutes from all the convenience of Samoëns village, La Ruche is an ideal year-round holiday destination.

During the winter months, the free and regular ski bus leaves from just 100m away and provides quick and easy access to the Grand Massif Express lift. The lift takes only 8-minutes to reach Samoëns 1600 from where you can link to our vast skiing domain. The village itself is around a 10-minute walk from the chalet. Grab a refreshment at one of Samoëns' many bars, cafes and restaurants, stroll through our picturesque botanical gardens, or admire the stonework of the medieval buildings in the historic town square. For another favourite winter pastime, Samoëns also boasts an impressive 600m2 ice-skating rink, situated just a few minutes' walk from the town centre.

La Ruche is also the perfect base for your summer holiday. A number of fantastic hiking and biking trails can be accessed direct from the chalet, including the famous Le Criou hike. This accessible yet at times challenging alpine hike is about a 7 hour round trip, so remember your packed lunch! If a relaxing stroll is more your thing then you are spoilt for choice at La Ruche. Amble through the sleepy and stunning hamlet of Les Vallons. Here you can admire ancient chapels, water fountains, authentic, unspoilt architecture and lovingly restored farmhouses.

The Grand Massif Express lift is also open throughout July and August, providing guests with access to a number of higher mountain walking trails, excellent downhill mountain biking terrain, and of course beautiful summer scenery. The Grand Massif Express lift is only a few minute's drive from La Ruche. Alternatively, you can walk to the lift via the riverside path, which takes about 12-minutes.

Ash and Mike (property managers) were very pro and also had some great suggestions for us. Really made us feel welcome, alerted us to everything, and also gave us some tips on what to do if we come back in the summer. A beautiful and super comfy chalet.

Steven Chiu, La Ruche, February 2018

A beautiful chalet in a lovely Alpine village which is a brilliant location for holiday with a 5 year old. So many things to do.

We have had a wonderful time this week in Samoens. The weather was excellent. We enjoyed the shade on the balcony. The lake in Morillon and the rivers at Sixt were very refreshing! We have enjoyed the house.

Lightfoot party, La Ruche, September 2016

La Ruche was selected as our road biking base for the week. Gaelle met us and was a fantastic host - available but not intrusive. The chalet is beautiful, as are the surroundings. Waking up to peaceful mountain views each day was priceless. Great base for road biking with the Col de Joux Plane around the corner.

The Robinsons, La Ruche, September 2016

We have had a wonderful time here, great chalet and location. Recommend taking the cable car and chair lift up to the top of the Tete de Saix with fantastic views of Mont Blanc! Wonderful scenery at Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval and the Cascade de Rouget.

About the owner

We live in Oxford with our two sons. We have been holidaying in Samoens since 2005 at all times of year and really love the area. We enjoy skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and cycling and hiking the rest of the year. Le Baptieux was built in 1880 and was a functional farm until around 1980. Since that time it provided a happy family home. We renovated Le Baptieux and La Ruche in 2015. A lot of thought and energy has gone into the renovations and the interior design, which hopefully future generations and guests will enjoy! Diane and Paul
